Before you start

RaptorPass works with the Bitwarden app, which is free and published by Bitwarden, Inc. Your account must already exist: first open the invitation you received by email and create your master password.

Your vault's address

It is in your welcome and access confirmed emails, and looks like this:

https://acme-k7f3q2m8xp.fr.raptorpass.eu

Don't use the app's account creation button: it would create an account with Bitwarden, unrelated to your vault.

Install the app

Download the app:

  1. Click "Get" in the App Store, then install the app.
  2. Open Bitwarden from the Applications folder or Launchpad.

For Safari: open the app once, then enable the extension in Safari, Settings, Extensions.

Link the app to your vault

This is the step that matters: without it, the app looks for your account at Bitwarden and doesn't find it. You only do it once per device.

  1. At the very bottom of the sign-in screen, click "Accessing: bitwarden.com".

  2. In the list, choose "self-hosted".

  3. In the "Server URL" field, paste your vault's address, then click "Save".

  4. The bottom of the screen now shows "self-hosted". Enter your email address, then click "Continue".

  5. Enter your master password.

Simplified illustration: the actual screen may differ slightly.

Use the app day to day

  1. Find an account with the "Search vault" field, then use "Copy password" and paste it into the site or software.
  2. To fill in websites automatically, also install the browser extension.

Unlock without retyping your password

Open the "Bitwarden" menu, then "Settings", and turn on "Unlock with Touch ID". You will still need your master password from time to time, so keep it safe.

Troubleshooting

  • "Invalid credentials" or account not found: first check that the sign-in screen shows "self-hosted", not bitwarden.com. If not, go back to the "Link the app to your vault" step.
  • You can't see shared passwords: your administrator must confirm your access. You receive an email once that's done, and the items appear after a sync.
  • You don't know your vault's address: it is in your welcome and access confirmed emails. Your administrator can also give it to you.
  • Forgotten master password: nobody knows it and it cannot be recovered. Contact your administrator.
